Solid Ground 2008

CAROLYN JANSZEN, VOLUNTEER 2008/2009

Carolyn seems to have a talent for finding extremely beautiful places to live. After living in Sydney (Australia) for 2 and a half years and working in the city, she finds it refreshing to be out in the wide open spaces of Simons Town. It is a great source of inspiration for her creativity, which is clear through her writing, painting, playing the piano, dancing and singing.
She loves travelling, and was lucky enough to see some of the other countries in Africa before settling at Rocklands. Carolyn is now traveling around the world again.

PADDY BROWN, VOLUNTEER 2008/2009

Paddy is an English gent who loves river kayaking, rock climbing and mountaineering.
“I think Rocklands is a fantastic place to live and work, beautiful surroundings, excellent management and a brilliant opportunity to share the gospel. A benefit is the constant opportunities to chase baboons and persuade them that the campsite is not a buffet! I would honestly and whole-heartedly recommend volunteering at Rocklands. It can be tough, the hours can be long, but it is the most rewarding work I’ve done!”
Paddy is back home in England, still exploring the rivers and mountains!

DARLA HANE, VOLUNTEER 2008/2009

Darla is from America and has lived on four continents and been involved with Christian camping all over the world.
“Rocklands is one of the best campsites I’ve seen; so volunteering here is painless. I am constantly surprised and pleased that management actually allowed me to work in areas that interest me: website design, decorating, managing the shop, etc. Sure, there were some unglamorous jobs that just had to be done, but fun projects far outnumbered them!” She is now helping out at a great campsite in the States and really misses Cape Town’s sunshine and beaches.

ANDREW WALLACE, VOLUNTEER 2008

Andrew is one of Rocklands international imports; he is an Irishman.  He really likes the South African band ‘Goldfish’. Andrew taught many campers Irish dancing and was an excellent tour guide for our other volunteers.

SIYA GQAMANA, VOLUNTEER 2008

Siya is from the Eastern Cape. He really enjoys sports of every kind.  His preaching style greatly inspired the staff!

AMEY EUROPA, VOLUNTEER 2008

Amey is South African and enjoys peanut butter and house music. Her amazing style and fun personality were great to have!

KATE MCGRATH, VOLUNTEER 2008

Kate is South African and enjoys sampling cakes in cafes.  We miss her calm manner and mad skills with paperwork!
Kate became part of our permanent staff in 2010, but chose to pursue a career in teaching at the end of 2011.
